Three individuals have been arrested in a drug bust.

The drug operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts by the Maldives Police Service (MPS) to combat drug smuggling and trafficking attempts across the country and to crackdown on such networks.

The drug raid was conducted in Thaa atoll on October 30.

It was a joint operation by the police Drug Enforcement Department (DED), Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Thaa Atoll Police.

As part of the raid, three houses in Veymandoo and six houses in Thimarafushi were searched.

Officers confiscated 19 rubber packets stuffed with suspected narcotics and an empty film cannister filled with suspected narcotics, during the raid.

Arrested in connection with the drug raid were Abdulla Salah, 35 and native to Thimarafushi island, Hassan Waheed, 27 and native to Hulhudheli island of Dhaalu atoll and Anoof Ahmed, 24 and native to Thimarafushi island.

Upon being presented to the court for their remand hearing, Abdulla Salah and Hassan Waheed were remanded for a 10-day period and Anoof Ahmed was remanded for a period of eight days.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
