The appointment of new ministers to the Cabinet of Ministers has been approved.

The People’s Majlis approved the appointment of three ministers on Tuesday.

The matter of seeking approval for newly appointed ministers by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, following changes to the Cabinet of Ministers, was sent to the People’s Majlis committee for review on October 14.

This matter was forwarded in connection with some changes made to the president’s Cabinet of Ministers on September 30. Muizzu had sought approval of these ministers in September.

However, the matter of approving the cabinet shuffle could not be placed on the agenda as the parliament was in recess.

The matter proceeded at the beginning of the new parliamentary session.

The president made changes to ministerial positions following the resignation of then Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq.

Minister Shafeeq did not disclose the reason for his resignation.

The government had also not revealed any details regarding his resignation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has replaced Shafeeq as Finance Minister.

Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, who was serving as the Minister of Health, has since been appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Further, as part of the changes being brought to the president’s Cabinet of Ministers on Monday, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim who was Public Policy Secretary at the President’s Office, has been appointed as the Minister of Health.

The appointment of the three ministers was approved unanimously by the lawmakers who participated in the voting during Tuesday's sitting.
