MDP files case on five ACC members to Parliament

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has submitted case to Parliament, requesting a review of five members of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
In a letter to Parliament Speaker sent on Wednesday, MDP Secretary General Anas Abdul Sattar said the ACC is, by law, an independent and non-aligned institution of the state. As such, the letter said, the Commission must carry out their mandate according to law.
It referred to clause 199 (b) of the Constitution which states that all state institutions must act to prevent corruption. However, the letter stated the Commission had failed to review President Abdullah Yameen’s links to the graft of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
Therefore, the letter asked to review the five members of the Commission, in light of their failure to investigate the links.
