The government has renamed a few institutions under the purview of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a statement on Tuesday, the President’s Office revealed that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has renamed some institutions under the purview of the foreign ministry and designated official English names to these institutions.
Two directives were issued on Tuesday, publicly announcing the changes.
The decision was made by the president under the powers vested to him as per Section 116 (a) of the Constitution of Maldives.
The changes have been in effect from 25 June 2024.
Out of these, the newly renamed institutions are the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations Office at Geneva, the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in the Kingdom of Belgium and Mission of the Republic of Maldives to the European Union.
Further, Muizzu has designated the official English names to be used for the institutions.
