Bank of Maldives (BML) has started accepting RuPay card transactions.
In a statement released on Monday, the country’s national bank revealed that they have enabled the use of RuPay cards at its ATMs and POS terminals.
According to BML, RuPay is India’s first global card payment network which is now used by more than 300 million users worldwide.
RuPay is a product of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
BML’s Director of Retail, Business and SME Banking Moosa Nimal expressed delight in partnering with National Payment Corporation of India to facilitate the acceptance of RuPay cards in the Maldives.
Highlighting that RuPay has made a significant impact on the retail payment systems in India, Nimal stated that with its acceptance at the widest banking network in the country, payments for RuPay users have been made easier than ever.
BML remains committed to support individuals, businesses and communities across Maldives.
The country’s national bank boasts a nationwide network of 39 branches across all 20 atolls, 88 self-service banking centers, 143 ATMs, over 7,000 merchants, cash agent service and a full suite of digital banking services.
This service was initiated as part of the agreements reached between the two countries during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's ongoing visit to India.
RuPay is widely used in Indian ATMs, POS machines, and e-commerce websites and has been known as a very secure network that provides protection against phishing activities.
