With the enhancement of security, special military units have been deployed to maintain round-the-clock duty at Aarah, where President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu spends his vacations.

A reliable source told RaajjeMV that the military did not maintain a 24-hour presence at Aarah during the past two administrations.

RaajjeMV understands that the military would only be on duty when the president or first lady visits the island and that the Marines Unit would be active there.

The source went on to reveal that only bodyguards would be present, otherwise.

Referring to a recent incident, the source said that while the first lady was staying at the island recently, a boat was noticed traveling relatively close to the island. Marines present at the time attended to the situation and learned that there was no danger.

The source added that the security at Aarah has been enhanced, with orders given for the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) to maintain a round-the-clock presence on the island.

The change is being implemented from Saturday onwards.

The source also revealed that in addition to the marines, teams from the Special Operation Group (SOG) and Special Force (SF) are also active on the island.

Both units are specialized forces that respond in special circumstances to defend the country.

In addition to this, he noted that the Coast Guard's Special Boat Squadron is actively monitoring the waters around Aarah.

RaajjeMV understands that security is typically strengthened in this manner in response to threats.

Attempts by RaajjeMV to get an official comment from MNDF regarding the enhanced security measures in Aarah, have been to no avail.

The station understands that Muizzu usually visits Aarah twice a week and the first lady also visits the island, frequently.
