No arrests have been made yet, in connection with the case of an attack on a youth inside a guesthouse in the congested capital, Malé City.

Hassan Mazlaan, 27 and native to Thoddoo island of Alif Alif atoll was found injured inside a room of the guesthouse. The incident was reported to authorities on the morning of September 9.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) told RaajjeMV that they are investigating the case as a serious matter and confirmed that no arrests have been made so far.

The family of the victim told RaajjeMV that his condition is improving.

However, his face remains severely swollen due to the brutal beating.

Going into the gruesome details of his injuries, the family said that parts of his head were also wounded, and his nasal bone was broken.

The family went on to reveal that Mazlaan had opened the door to the guesthouse room he was staying in, after someone knocked. As soon as he opened the door, he was hit in the face with a glass bottle. The family cited Mazlaan having revealed that he lost consciousness after he was struck near his right eye. The two men who attacked him stole all of his belongings after the attack.

Mazlaan is a dutiful youth who is employed at a resort.

He is to have visited the capital with a friend for a few days during his vacation, to take care of some essential matters.

They were staying in two separate rooms in the guesthouse.

Mazlaan's friend reported the incident after not having heard from him in a while.

Police officers went to the area in response to information received. Upon entering the room, officers found him lying on the ground.

MPS revealed that he was rushed to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
