Assistance has been provided to 50 expatriates and six Maldivians in connection with the fire incident on Monday.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) revealed that 50 expatriates and six Maldivians were evacuated due to the fire.

NDMA is currently working to identify them to provide them assistance.

Further, they revealed that they are in the process of identifying those who require assistance due to the fire and providing temporary shelter to those who need it.

NDMA went on to reveal that they will be arranging food and clothing for those who need it, as well.

Although no injuries were reported in the fire that broke out inside Gaamagu Café in Henveiru-ward of the congested capital Malé City, RaajjeMV understands that two individuals were taken to ADK Hospital for smoke inhalation.

They include a 30-year-old expatriate woman and a 48-year-old Maldivian woman.

The fire incident at the café affected two adjacent buildings. The café is located at the end of Sosun Magu, on Dhoohimeri Magu.

The neighboring building caught fire and has been burned beyond use.

The café where the fire originated was also burned beyond use.

Authorities received reports of the café being engulfed in flames at around 02:45pm on Monday.

Teams from Maldives Police Service (MPS) and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s Fire and Rescue Services were involved in attempts to douse the blaze and ultimately brought the massive fire under control with foam.

The fire was completely extinguished an hour later.
