Ikram appealed his remand pending sentencing at the High Court

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has assured that strict action will be taken if there was any negligence on the part of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) in the release of Ibrahim Ikram, involved in the fatal accident near Vinares Flat in Hulhumalé Phase II.

Ikram appealed his remand pending sentencing at the High Court.

The judges who heard the case in the High Court unanimously decided that the order was invalid because he was not given the opportunity for legal representation.

The judges who heard the case in the High Court said that due to discrepancies in the statements made by both parties, they obtained the recordings from the Criminal Court and examined whether there was any discussion regarding the right to legal representation during the remand hearing.

Upon examination, the High Court judges stated that no such matter was discussed by either the Criminal Court judges or any other party present at the hearing.

With this, the judges said that this is a matter that needs to be investigated.

When questioned by RaajjeMV, Minister Ihusaan said that they would investigate how MPS followed its procedures in his release and check if any mistakes were made and if there was any negligence.

The minister has given his assurance that if any negligence is found, action will be taken.
