Discussions have been held on boosting cybersecurity cooperation between the governments of Maldives and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The discussions were held as part of the recent visit conducted by a high-profile delegation of the UAE Cyber Security Council to the Maldives.

Head of the UAE Cyber Security Council Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti led the delegation on the official state visit to Maldives.

According to the Maldives Police Service (MPS), the visit carried the purpose of enhancing bilateral relations and boosting cybersecurity cooperation.

As part of the visit, Dr. Al Kuwaiti paid a courtesy call on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu last week, where discussions touched upon the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries, enhancing cooperation in data protection, mitigating misinformation and disinformation as well as the significance of facilitating training opportunities for officials to keep up with technological advancements.

The Maldivian leader expressed gratitude to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his vision and leadership in promoting strategic partnerships with the Maldives.

He also shed light on the ongoing projects with the assistance of the UAE government, to boost the island nation’s law enforcement capacity.

Dr. Al Kuwaiti also met other top officials of the Maldivian government.

Discussions saw Dr. Al Kuwaiti shedding light on the deep-rooted friendship and brotherhood both countries have been enjoying over the years.

Ways to address the current developments and challenges in the field of cybersecurity were explored as well.

Discussions also revolved around the urgency for coordinated efforts to ensure a secure cyberspace.

Expressing sincere appreciation for the UAE government for the assistance extended to enhance key cybersecurity and law enforcement initiatives in the Maldives, the police institution thanked Dr. Al Kuwaiti for his keen interest in bringing these projects to realization and recognizing the vital role they will play in enhancing the operational capabilities of MPS.

An MPS spokesperson stated that Dr. Al Kuwaiti’s dedication to regional security and stability is inspiring and that MPS is honored to be a part of this effort.

Dr. Al Kuwaiti’s visit marks a new chapter in the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The police institution revealed that Maldives and UAE remain committed to ensure a safer and more secure future, through progressive technology and cooperation.
