The nurse employed at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) who has been slapped with accusations of drug abuse, has been suspended.

This has been confirmed by the hospital.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) on Saturday launched a probe into the allegations pinned on the nurse.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, a media official at the police institution revealed that they received a report of a nurse at the hospital using drugs a fortnight back and that they have launched an investigation in connection with the case.

The case was lodged at MPS by the hospital.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, the media official at IGMH revealed that accused in the case is a female nurse and that she has been suspended.

Although she was serving as a ward in-charge earlier, she was transferred about two months back based on her level of work.

The official added that the title of ward in-charge has been removed from her job description.

The police institution revealed that no arrests have been made so far.

According to sources the matter made the spotlight and the hospital lodged a complaint after the nurse reported to duty high on drugs.

Further investigations are currently underway.

Drug possession and abuse are major issues for which the country is yet to find a solution.

Such cases are reported from across the country frequently and authorities continue to seize large quantities of drugs in major operations.
