The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has finally issued a statement condemning the bombing of a school in Gaza City sheltering displaced citizens, by Israel, after several other countries had already condemned the attack.

More than 12 hours after the massacre, the foreign ministry issued a statement on Saturday condemning Israel’s bombing of the Al-Tabi’in School in Gaza City, which killed more than 100 displaced Palestinians forced to seek refuge at the school, in its wake.

Taking to social media platform ‘X’, Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer strongly condemned the Israeli massacre of more than hundred displaced Palestinians.

Highlighting that this constitutes a grave violation of international law and international humanitarian law, FM Zameer stated that the perpetrators must be held accountable for these crimes against humanity.

In its statement, the foreign ministry stressed that such genocidal actions that target civilians including children, are in clear violation of the fundamental principles of international law and international humanitarian law; and 2610 resolution of the United Nations (UN) Security Council (UNSC).

The statement goes on to read that the government reiterates its call upon the international community to take decisive measures to stop these attacks on innocent civilians.

Further, Maldives has urged the international community to work towards achieving lasting peace for the people of Palestine.

In its statement the ministry went on to reaffirm that the government and people of Maldives remain determined in supporting the people of Palestine in their legitimate pursuit to attain their inalienable rights, including the right to self-determination and statehood.

International media reports that the Israeli strike killed and injured several including children.

Israel's inhumane attack was condemned by Arab and Muslim countries, the European Union's High Representative of the EU Foreign Affairs and Security Josep Borrell and the UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories Francisca P. Albanese.
