A case of an elderly man falling victim to theft is under investigation.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the elderly man was robbed inside a room he was renting in the capital, Malé City.

The police institution received reports of the incident after sundown on Tuesday.

The 62-year-old man who had travelled to the capital city to seek medical treatment, was robbed of his phone and money by two men who barged into his rented room.

No arrests have been made in connection with the case so far, according to police.

Photos circulating on social media show the elderly man suffering a minor injury to his hand.

He sought treatment for his injured arm, seen bruised in the photos, at the hospital.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the theft.

This comes at a time cases of theft have been spiraling in the capital city.

MPS had earlier urged the public to be extra cautious while staying in rented rooms.
