President Muizzu welcomed the new Colombian ambassador to the Maldives

Discussions have been held on enhancing cooperation between the governments of Maldives and Colombia, on climate change mitigation.

This was done during a meeting Ambassador of Colombia to Maldives Dr. Victor Echeverri Jaramillo held with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, following a ceremony to present his credentials.

The ceremony, held at the President’s Office on Monday, saw the Colombian ambassador presenting his Letters of Credence to the Maldivian president.

The Colombian ambassador was escorted to the President’s Office from the Republic Square in a cultural procession, with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.

Accepting his credentials, President Muizzu welcomed the new Colombian ambassador to the Maldives.

The meeting that followed the credentials ceremony saw discussions revolving around boosting cooperation on areas of higher education, climate change mitigation as well as renewable energy.

Maldives and Colombia established diplomatic relations on 22 August 1988.

The new Colombian ambassador is accredited to the Maldives as a non-resident Ambassador and resides in New Delhi, India.
