The Maldivian leader is to attend the swearing-in ceremony of India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

In a publication on Saturday, the President’s Office revealed that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was invited by PM Modi to attend the swearing-in ceremony.

President Muizzu has graciously accepted the invitation to attend the oath taking ceremony of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers of the government of India.

Higher Commissioner of India Munu Mahawar presented the letter of invitation to the Maldivian president during a courtesy call paid at the President's Office.

The call saw the Indian High Commissioner extending greetings from PM Modi, stating that the PM is looking forward to have the president attend the momentous ceremony marking his third oath taking as the Prime Minister of India.

Extending gratitude to the Prime Minister for the invitation, Muizzu expressed honor in being able to attend the historic event.

Further, he expressed keen interest to work with the PM to further enhance the close relations with India.

President Muizzu noted that the relationship between the two neighboring countries, is being steered in the positive direction, as would be demonstrated by this visit.

He went on to thank High Commissioner Mahawar for personally delivering the invitation.

The Maldivian leader expressed keenness to work towards the advancement of shared interests between the governments of Maldives and India, in his congratulatory message posted on social media platform ‘X’ on June 4, following PM Modi’s victory in the Indian General Elections.

In his message, the Maldivian leader offered his congratulations to PM Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for their victory in the Indian General Elections of 2024.

Shedding light on BJP's win for the third consecutive term, the Maldivian president expressed keen interest to continue working together to advance the shared interests of both countries.

Further, he expressed hope to continue collaborating to enhance the shared objectives of the two countries, in the pursuit of development and stability.

In response, PM Modi stated that the government of India looks forward for closer cooperation with the government of Maldives, to strengthen bilateral ties.

PM Modi highlighted that Maldives is a valued partner of India alongside being a neighbor in the Indian Ocean Region.
