President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed hope to work with the government of Barbados towards implementing the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
He said this in a phone conversation with Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley, SC, M.P.
The Maldivian president touched down in Barbados on his return trip home, after concluding his visit to Antigua and Barbuda to participate in the fourth International Conference on SIDS.
During the telephone conversation, President Muizzu expressed gratitude to the PM of Barbados as well as the government, for the warm hospitality as well as excellent arrangements made for him during his stopover on Thursday.
President Muizzu made the phone call as the PM of Barbados was out of the country at the time of his visit.
Expressing delight to witness the beauty of Barbados, the Maldivian leader highlighted that he was leaving the country with fond memories of the generous hospitality, that he was guided through the wonderful landmark and stunning natural beauty.
Further, he praised the PM of Barbados for the leadership shown at the fourth International Conference on SIDS, especially on the reform of the international financial architecture.
Muizzu added that the government of Maldives prioritizes and hopes for a future where both countries can work together in efforts to implement the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS.
President Muizzu was warmly received by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Foreign and Foreign Trade C. Sandra V. Husbands, M.P. and Chief of Protocol Resa Layne, upon arrival at Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA).
The Maldivian leader and his delegation were also given a tour of the cultural and historical sites on the island.
