A hefty amount of alcohol and beer has been seized from an uninhabited island in Lhaviyani atoll.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that an operation was conducted after being tipped off that alcohol and beers were buried in Gaaerifaru, an uninhabited island of Lhaviyani atoll.

The intel report was received by the Hinnavaru Police Station and the operation was carried out on May 19.

Officers that scanned the region where the alcohol and beers were reported to have been buried, uncovered 91 cans of beer and 59 bottles of alcohol.

No arrests have been made in connection with the case so far.

The case is under further investigation at the Hinnavaru Police Station.
