Wednesday’s People’s Majlis sitting has been adjourned due to lack of quorum.
The parliament sitting was scheduled for 9am, Wednesday.
However, the sitting began at around 9:30 and Speaker Mohamed Aslam stated that the sitting was adjourned, as the number of parliamentarians legally required to hold a sitting, were not present.
Although 87 members were elected to the 19th parliament tenure, only 80 members remain.
The quorum required to hold a parliament sitting is at 22 members, according to the Maldives’ Constitution.
Some of the matters placed on Wednesday’s agenda include summoning Construction Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib for questioning. MP for Kendhikulhudhoo constituency Ahmed Easa proposed to question the minister.
Although Wednesday’s sitting was cancelled due to lack of quorum, the sitting scheduled for Tuesday was held. Debates on some proceedings were held during Tuesday’s sitting.
During Tuesday’s sitting, Aslam announced that the swearing-in ceremony for the new parliamentarians would be held on May 28.
