President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been briefed on the challenges facing Maamendhoo island in Laamu atoll, due to land scarcity.

This was done during a meeting the president held with the island’s councilors and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members as part of his tour of several islands in Laamu atoll which he began on Thursday morning.

The meeting saw discussions revolving around the most pertinent development needs of the island community.

Councilors briefed the president on the multiple challenges facing the island community due to land scarcity, the island’s damaged harbor, the need for road development as well as the need to develop healthcare services.

In response to a question posed by WDC members, President Muizzu shed light on his ambitious vision for the future progress of WDCs nationwide.

He shared his goal to ensure that WDC members receive the same employee benefits as other staff, including an increase in the current WDC allowance and the facilitation of annual leave as well as other benefits.

The members of his cabinet accompanying him on the tour provided updates on the ongoing initiatives by the administration aiming to address the issues raised by the councilors.

President Muizzu assured the councilors that their recommendations would be considered, and that the government would seek ways to pursue them.
