The council members of Isdhoo island in Laamu atoll, have requested the government to upgrade their health center into a hospital.
This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with the island’s councilors and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members as part of his tour of several islands in Laamu atoll which he began on Thursday morning.
Discussions at the meeting revolved around the most pressing concerns and issues facing the island community.
Isdhoo councilors expressed joy that the president has visited the island within the first five months since assuming office.
The president was briefed on the jurisdictional tensions facing the island, and councilors urged him to find a peaceful solution for the residents of Isdhoo and Kalaidhoo.
Stressing on the need to develop an airport that efficiently serves the residents of Isdhoo, Kalaidhoo, and Dhanbidhoo, the council members shed light on the importance of upgrading their healthcare facilities.
In this regard, they requested the government to upgrade their health center into a hospital.
They also sought from the government to enhance banking services on the island.
Highlighting the importance of boosting the educational standards of the island, the councilors spoke regarding other important issues such as constructing the island’s port, relocating the channel on the island as well as enhancing the quality of electricity and water supply.

The members of his cabinet accompanying him on the tour provided updates on the ongoing initiatives by the administration aiming to address the issues raised by the councilors.
President Muizzu also assured the councilors that their recommendations would be considered, and that the government would seek ways to pursue them.
