A man has been arrested in connection with a drug operation conducted in Fonadhoo and Maamendhoo islands of Laamu atoll.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the operation was conducted as part of their efforts to curb drug smuggling and trafficking attempts across the island nation, as well as to crackdown on such networks.
According to the police institution, the operation in Maamendhoo island was carried out after receiving an intel report regarding drug possession.
During a separate operation conducted on March 12, a Maldivian man, 35, was arrested in Fonadhoo island.
Upon being presented to the Fonadhoo Magistrate Court for his remand hearing, the suspect was given a five-day remand period.
Both cases are currently under further investigation.
