March 11, Monday, has been declared the first day of Ramadan 1445.
This was announced by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs on Sunday, as the moon sighting for the fasting month was observed on Sunday night. The announcement was made following a special ceremony held for the moon sighting at the Islamic Centre.
The moon sighting was observed across the Maldives as well as many Islamic countries across the globe after sundown, on Sunday.
The ministry has declared Sunday as the 29th day of the month of Shaban 1444.
This makes Monday, March 11 the first day of Ramadan this year.
The public is advised to pay special heed to religious practices and prayers during the holy month of Ramadan.
The kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates as well as Oman have also declared Monday as the first day of Ramadan 1444.
