Council members of Maafushi island of Kaafu atoll have briefed President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on the challenges facing the island community.
This was done during a meeting he held with the island’s council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members on Thursday.
Discussions at the meeting revolved around crucial development plans for the island as well as challenges facing residents.
As such, councilors shed light on the need for a road construction initiative, enhancing hospital services, expanding the island’s harbor, as well as reinforcing fire and rescue services at Maafushi Prison.
They also requested the president to initiate a project to upgrade the island's sewerage system, expedite the construction of the school’s annex building, install a dollar ATM vestibule and establish a mosque on the island, swiftly.
Speaking at the meeting, Maafushi WDC members highlighted concerns regarding insufficient allowances provided to them.
They stressed on the urgency of resolving waste management issues as well.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured the members that his administration would address the issues raised by the council and seek solutions to tackle them, through consultations with relevant authorities.
