Council members of Maakurathu island of Raa atoll have shared the socio-economic development needs of the island community with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

This was done during a meeting the president held with the island’s council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members on Sunday.

Discussions at the meeting revolved around essential development projects for the island’s progress, including the development of an office complex, a multipurpose hall for the island’s school as well as the swift expedition of the harbor development project.

Other topics discussed at the meeting include the need to implement shore protection measures and the need to establish police services.

Maakurathu councilors went on to highlight the issue of lack of staff at the island’s health center.

Listening to these concerns, the president assured the members that his administration would address the issues raised by the council and seek solutions to tackle them, through consultations with relevant authorities.

Members of the president’s Cabinet of Ministers accompanying him during the tour shared latest updates linked to the issues raised, at the meeting.
