Council members of Kolamaafushi island of Gaaf Alif atoll, have shared their most pressing development needs with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
During the meeting held at the secretariat of the Kolamaafushi council, the councilors briefed the president on their most urgent development needs, of which land reclamation is their highest priority.
The councilors urged the government to establish an airport in the island's vicinity.
Discussions also revolved around the community’s aspirations for tourism development.
Kolamaafushi councilors also proposed design changes to the island harbor to include a slipway.
In addition to this, they also shared challenges they face in waste management, as well as concerns regarding issues in electricity generation.
The president was also briefed on the healthcare, education, and socio-economic development needs of the community.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured them that the issues raised at the meeting would be addressed through consultations with relevant authorities.
Members of the president’s Cabinet of Ministers that accompanied him during his tour of the south this week shared the latest updates of development projects planned for the island, at the meeting.
