The government of Japan has provided a grand aid of an additional USD 3.5 million or 326 million Japanese Yen, for the Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting Network Development Project (DTTB).

The Exchange of Notes relating to the grant aid was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer on behalf of the Maldivian government and Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Takeuchi Midori on behalf of the government of Japan.

The signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

The foreign ministry revealed that the DTTB is a project that holds immense significance for the island nation.

It carries the purpose of improving information accessibility and bridging disparities among the scatter of island comprising the Maldives.

The impact of the project is expected to be far-reaching not only in bolstering communication infrastructure but also in building resilience against climate change and disasters.

The ministry revealed that the additional funding will enable the continuation of the project's original scope.

This will in turn contribute significantly to the successful realization of the initiative.

Speaking at Thursday’s signing ceremony, FM Zameer expressed gratitude to the continued support provided by the government of Japan.

Shedding light on the significance of this collaboration in efforts to boost the island nation’s socio-economic development, FM Zameer also touched upon the important role the Japanese government has played as one of the key development partners.

FM Zameer noted that the government of Maldives remains committed to further strengthen the existing relations between the two countries.

Senior officials from the foreign ministry, Ministry of Finance, Public Service Media (PSM), Communication Authority of Maldives, Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC), Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) as well as officials from the Embassy of Japan and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), attended Thursday’s ceremony.
