A tailor-made online programme has been unveiled to teach Maldivians abroad, Dhivehi and Islam.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu launched the tailor-made online programme on Wednesday.
‘Riveli’ was launched during the president’s meeting with the Maldivian community living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as part of his ongoing official trip to the middle eastern nation upon the official invitation of Vice-President, Prime Minister and Minister for Defence of UAE, Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
His visit was to attend the World Governments Summit 2024, which was convened from February 12 – 14 at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai.
The programme carries the purpose of revitalizing the nationalistic identity of Maldivians by incorporating Dhivehi language and Islamic studies to teach Maldivians residing and studying abroad.
The programme is part the Maldivian leader’s pledge made on 30 November 2023, to uphold the principles of nationalism. The pledge was made during a meeting held with the Maldivian community residing in UAE.
In addition to this, it is part of the work carried out by the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage to collaborate with embassies and consulates overseas to ensure Maldivians residing abroad embrace the Dhivehi language and uphold the tenets of Islam.
At Wednesday’s meeting, President Muizzu inquired the Maldivian community about their well-being, as well as the challenges they face.
