The council of Buruni island of Thaa atoll has shared the most pertinent development needs of the island community, with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
This was done during a meeting the president held with the island council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) of Buruni island on Wednesday.
During the meeting held at Buruni School, councilors briefed the president on the most pressing concerns and needs facing the island community and shed light on the challenges surfacing for them due to the halting of the harbor upgrade and water network project.
Sharing further needs of the island school and difficulties caused by space constraints at the Council Secretariat, the councilors discussed their development visions with the president as well.
As such, they shed light on the development of housing units, a children's park, ATM services, and a sports fishing buoy for recreational fishing.
The meeting also saw the island’s WDC members seeking a Ramadan allowance and maternity leave.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured that he would look into the possibility of restarting the halted projects.
He stated that the government is making additional efforts to increase the revenue for state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
Muizzu also touched upon his administration’s efforts to include uninhabited islands under the jurisdiction of the nearest inhabited islands and promoted small and medium-level projects to be conducted through the councils.
The council and WDC members were also briefed on the incumbent administration’s plans to introduce housing loans.
