A local has drowned off Fuvahmulah City.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the deceased has been identified as a 23-year-old Maldivian man.

The police institution received reports of a drowning man taken to the hospital at around 7:30am on Sunday.

Citing doctors at the hospital, MPS revealed that he was already dead when he was taken there.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the incident.

No further details of the deceased have been disclosed yet.
