The government of China has pledged USD 130 million in grant assistance to the government of Maldives, says President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The president announced this while speaking to press at Velana International Airport (VIA), following the conclusion of his state visit to China.

The first couple returned from their state visit to China on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking to press, Muizzu revealed that agreements for grant assistance were signed during the visit.

As such, the government of China has pledged 920 million Chinese Yuan which is approximately USD 130 million.

The president revealed that a majority of the grant assistance will be spent on redeveloping the roads of the congested capital, Malé City.

He added that the remaining funds will be used for other important purposes.

President Muizzu held official talks with the President of China during the visit.

The official talks saw both sides discussing ways to expand tourism and air connectivity between the two countries.
