VP Latheef expresses gratitude for technical support provided to Maldives by WTO
Maldives became a member of WTO on 31 May 1995
VP Latheef also touched upon the significance of restructuring the debt of Maldives

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has expressed gratitude for the technical support the World Trade Organization (WTO) has extended to the government of Maldives.

The Maldivian vice president said this during a meeting with Director General of WTO Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on Monday.

The meeting was held on Monday as part of the Maldivian vice president’s official visit to Geneva, Switzerland, to participate in the high-level event to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Human Rights 75).

The high-level Human Rights 75 event was held from December 11 – 12.

VP Latheef was accompanied by Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Hussain Shareef, during the meeting.

Expressing gratitude and appreciation for the technical support WTO has provided to the Maldivian government, VP Latheef shed light on the commitment of the government of Maldives to ensure further cooperation and collaboration.

The Maldivian vice president also touched upon the significance of restructuring the debt of Maldives.

Discussions also revolved around ways to increase the inflow of foreign direct investment into the island nation.

Further, they engaged in discussions regarding efforts to strengthen the relationship Maldives has with WTO and on exploring new avenues of cooperation.

Maldives became a member of WTO on 31 May 1995.
