More than half a kilogram of narcotics being smuggled into southernmost Addu City via air, has been seized.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that a 33-year-old Maldivian man was arrested in connection with the case.
The operation was conducted at Gan International Airport at around 1:55am on Monday, following an intel report received by the Police Intelligence Unit.
The suspect had arrived at Gan on a domestic flight.
Officers of the narcotics intelligence and Gan Police Station conducted the operation jointly.
A large rubber packet filled with suspected narcotics, was found on the suspect upon searching him.
Upon being presented to the Feydhoo Magistrate Court for his remand hearing, the suspect was given 15 days in judicial custody.
Addu City’s Gan Police Station is currently conducting further investigations into the case.
