Maumoon excluded from this year’s official celebrations

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has stated that real independence is to be free from selfishness and greed and at the same time putting the good of the nation before own needs.
The former President made the tweet in connection to the 52nd Independence Day of the nation.
At the 52nd Independence Day, the former President, who had governed the nation for 30 of those years, is at the opposition.
Recently, President Maumoon had apologized for his role in electing incumbent and half-brother Yameen Abdul Gayoom to power and expressed his deep regret for the current situation of the nation, especially in the past four years.
Almost all opposition leaders had worked back in 2013 to bring President Yameen to power. However, following the events that transpired during this period, they all had left the alliance and joined the opposition.
President Maumoon has been excluded from this year’s official functions to mark the Independence Day.
