These narcotics were seized in three shipments

The Maldives Customs Service has seized three consignments of narcotics being smuggled into the Maldives, via air.

Customs revealed that the first shipment was seized from a German traveler that arrived in the Maldives on September 27.

The traveler was in possession of a package that contained the narcotics, weighing 2.2 kilograms of drugs that tested positive for Mephedrone in the first stage of analysis.

The second shipment was seized from inside an air cargo shipment that arrived from neighboring India on October 5.

Customs officials discovered three kilograms of narcotics that tested positive for Heroin, that were concealed within electronic gadgets that were inside the package.

Further, a third shipment was seized two days later on October 7, inside an air cargo shipment that arrived from Thailand.

Heroin weighing 3.5 kilograms was found inside the shipment.

The authority went on to note that the seized drugs carry a street value of MVR eight million.

The confiscated drugs have since been handed over to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) for further investigation.
