The locals arrested in connection with allegations of prostitution have been remanded.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) made the arrests during an operation conducted after being tipped off regarding prostitution inside a clinic in the capital Malé City, which specializes in Dhivehi Medicine.
The operation was conducted jointly by the Police Anti-Human Trafficking Department and the Police Intelligence Unit, after sundown on Wednesday.
Arrested were a 35-year-old woman, a 44-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man.
All three have since been remanded by the Criminal Court. As such, the 35-year-old woman and 41-year-old man were remanded for a period of 10 days, with the 44-year-old woman given a five-day remand period.
The court order states that the remand period of 44-year-old woman was shortened after she asserted that she needed to speak with a lawyer regarding police actions at the time of her arrest.
The court order goes on to reveal that the 35-year-old woman has a criminal record.
Further details of the suspects were not disclosed by the authorities, however, further investigations proceed.
