The fifth floor of the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) building has been designated as the Office of the President-elect.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih instituted the 'Office of the President-elect' on October 5 with the aim of assisting President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to carry out his duties and responsibilities throughout the government transition.
Abdul Raheem Abdullah was named Director General of Transition under the Presidential Transition Act, under which the office was established, by the Civil Services Commission (CSC).
In his capacity as Director General, Abdullah is tasked with the responsibility of overseeing all matters related to the government transition.
Hussain Amir, Secretary Corporate Services at the President’s Office was assigned to handle this matter on behalf of the President’s Office by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
A directive issued by the government on October 5 instructed government offices and state institutions to prepare for any changes that could be brought to the administrative structure and senior personnel during the transition to a new government.
The directive also mandates to prepare crucial information about government agencies for the president-elect to ensure a smooth power transfer that does not disrupt government operations or interrupt services provided by the government to the citizens.
Government agencies are instructed to transmit documents to the Office of the President-elect via the Government E-Letter Management System (GEMS).
The incumbent Maldivian leader has urged all appointees to continue performing their duties until the end of his presidential term.
President Solih also assured that he would try to make the transition process as smooth as possible.
