The Maldives Customs Service has foiled a drug smuggling attempt via air shipment.

The items were seized during a search of an air shipment from Dubai to the Maldives, on 18 September, 2023. 

Customs went onto disclose that the searched shipment contained a total of seven packages, two of which contained suspected drug paraphernalia.

Customs analyzed the items and found them to be positive for heroin.

The total weight of the drugs seized in this case was 4.030 kg, according to customs. The street value of these items is MVR 5,024,410.

The drugs has now been handed over to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation.
