EC has disclosed that the second round of the 2023 Presidential Election will see more officials

The Elections Commission has disclosed that the second round of the 2023 Presidential Election will see more officials.

This was revealed by the Vice President of the commission during Saturday’s presser.

Speaking at the press conference, the commission’s Vice President, Ismail Habeeb stated that the commission needs more officials for the second round of the election. He went onto say that the EC has opened up applications for officials until 29th September. Hence, he noted that those who are interested have the opportunity to join the election team as an official.

Habeeb stated that the commission is now training 350 officials who were on reserve before. He said this means that the commission needs more reserve officials.

He said that trainings for officials will continue with the availability of them.

Habib also said that he hoped that the second round of the presidential election would go smoothly. He said that arrangements have been made to ensure that the issues identified during the first round are not repeated in the second round.

According to the EC announcement, MVR 1,500 will be paid for the position of polling station head and MVR 1,200 their assistant. The polling station head will also be given MVR 100 as phone allowance.

Additionally, election officials will be paid MVR 1,000 and reserve officials will be paid MVR 500.

This money will only be paid for the polling day.

Those interested in being an election official can submit their application online, via email or in person at the Elections Commission.
