The Maldives Customs Service has cracked down on a drug smuggling attempt.
In a press release issued on Monday, the customs department revealed that they seized the consignment during an operation conducted on August 21, during further inspection after suspicious substances were found to be present in a parcel inside an air cargo shipment from UL103, Malaysia, during inspection.
The substances found during the inspection tested positive for heroin upon the first round of analysis.
The drugs weighed a total of 1,628 grams and is estimated to have a street value of MVR two million.
The drugs seized in the operation have since been handed over to the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
Further investigations are currently underway.
