Two individuals have been arrested in connection with a case of alcohol smuggling.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that they received an intel report that alcohol was being smuggled into the capital city from its suburban extension Hulhumalé, with which an operation was launched after sundown on Wednesday.

When the car that the alcohol was being smuggled in arrived in Malé, Galolhu Police officers had chased the car down and stopped them as they fled, despite repeated instructions from the police to stop the car, on the bridge.

The car was stopped near Seagull Café.

The two 21-year-old Maldivian men inside were taken into police custody.

Upon being instructed to stop, the two suspects inside the car are to have panicked and thrown the package they were carrying, on Filigas Magu.

Officers confiscated 24 cans of beer from the package.

The case is currently under further investigation, by the Drug Enforcement Department (DED).
