Adeeb, who is currently under house arrest, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after having been found guilty of the seven counts of charges in connection with the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement case, back in October 2020.

Relevant authorities earlier revealed that Adeeb was moved to house arrest due to health issues linked to a respiratory illness.

Adeeb pleaded guilty to the seven charges raised against him during the preliminary stage of the trial.

The seven charges raised against Adeeb were two counts of involvement in corruption, two counts of using his position to gain undue benefits, two charges of money-laundering as well as an abuse of power charge.
