An arrest has been made in Maamigili island of Alif Dhaal atoll in connection with a drug case.
The arrest was made during a drug operation conducted by the Police Intelligence Unit and the police officers stationed on Maamigili island, on June 17.
The operation was carried out as part of the police institution’s ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and smuggling across the nation and crackdown on such networks.
Arrested in connection with the case is a 26-year-old Maldivian man.
Officers who raided the suspect’s residence under a court order confiscated 10 rubber packets stuffed with suspected narcotics, during the operation.
Upon being presented to the Mahibadhoo Magistrate Court for his remand hearing, he was remanded for a period of seven days at a facility decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The police station in Mahibadhoo island is currently investigating the case.
