The governments of Maldives and the United States have signed the tenth amendment to the Development Objective Grant Agreement (DOAG).

The 10th amendment to the DOAG was signed during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

The signing marked a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between the Maldives and the US.

The 10th amendment to the DOAG was signed by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel on behalf of the Maldivian government, with USAID Mission Director Gabriel Grau signing the agreement on behalf of the US government.

Senior officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and USAID Mission to the Maldives attended the signing ceremony.

Signed between Maldives and US on 12 March 2019, the DOAG is a landmark development cooperation agreement.

Over the course of the years, the funding allocated has observed gradual increase.

The government of US has committed an additional USD 7.2 million to the Maldives through the 10th amendment signed to the agreement, on Monday. The total value of funding has been increased to USD 36.1 million, with the signing of the 10th amendment.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that the funds will be used to strengthen the technical capacity of the Maldives in managing public finances.

The funds are also expected to reinforce the resilience of the island nation’s economic and democratic governance.
