President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced his administration's commitment to implementing further development projects in Magoodhoo Island in Faafu atoll.

President Solih made this announcement while speaking at the inauguration of the water and sewerage network and the newly built administrative building of FENAKA Corporation of Magoodhoo Island on Saturday.

The President was joined at the inauguration ceremony by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, Cabinet ministers, parliamentarians, senior government officials, the staff of government offices and institutions, and members of the residential community.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih highlighted the previous state of Magoodhoo Island and the significant progress achieved during his tenure. He provided the residents with specific details of various development projects successfully implemented on the island.

Regarding the development of Magoodhoo Island's airport, the President expressed that it would become one of the premier airports in the region.

As such, he highlighted several key developments, including establishing a VIP lounge, expanding the runway to 1800 meters to accommodate private jets, introducing a fuel farm to support flight operations, and providing parking spaces for private aircraft. He also noted the construction of a dedicated hotel facility to cater to the accommodation needs of flight crew during layovers.

President Solih shared the administration's comprehensive vision for developing Magoodhoo Island, encompassing various aspects such as road infrastructure enhancement. The President revealed ongoing negotiations with a potential partner to undertake the reclamation and development of a resort in the island's lagoon.

These strategic initiatives aim to bolster the island's overall infrastructure and tourism potential, contributing to its long-term economic growth and prosperity.

The President attributed the fast-paced development of Magoodhoo Island to its residents' exceptional unity and collective efforts, applauding their cohesive spirit in driving the island's progress.

At the ceremony, the President was presented with a commemorative plaque by the island council.

Implementing the water and sewerage network project on Magoodhoo Island follows the "Integrated Water Resource Management" guidelines. This initiative aims to provide households with a dependable and safe freshwater supply by utilising desalinated water and harvested rainwater capacity.

The project includes two RO plants, two water storage tanks, and a 5.4-kilometre water network serving 166 households. Additionally, two pump stations will connect 168 households through a 4.2-kilometre sewerage network. The project is funded by the government's domestic fund and the Maldives Green Fund. The powerhouse on Magoodhoo Island previously did not have a designated office space. However, the newly constructed FENAKA office building on Magoodhoo Island can accommodate up to 30 employees, a significant increase from the previous capacity of three. The new office building is equipped with modern amenities.
