Diplomatic relations have been established between the Maldives and Togo.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that the Republic of Maldives and the Togolese Republic formally established diplomatic ties on Thursday.
The Joint Communiqué formalizing diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed by Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations Thilmeeza Hussain on behalf of the Maldivian government, and Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Togo to the United Nations Koffi Akakpo on behalf of the Togolese Republic.
Taking to Twitter following the signing of the Joint Communiqué, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid revealed that the establishment of diplomatic relations with Togo marks a key advancement in the implementation of the foreign policy of Maldives.
He also noted that it will increase people-to-people contact and cooperation between Maldives and Togo.

The establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Togo paves the path for increased bilateral and multilateral cooperation to achieve common goals in areas of mutual interest, as relatively small nations in the international arena.
The Togolese Republic, a country in West Africa with a population of approximately eight million, is the 184th country to establish diplomatic relations with the Maldives.
