Remand extended for gang violence suspect Faih
The suspect’s remand period has been extended at a time the state has sought from the court to remand him pending the end of his trial

Ibrahim Faih Nizam has been remanded by 15 more days.

Faih was arrested under accusations of being involved in a case of gang violence and assault.

He was earlier remanded by a period of 30 days, and it was extended for seven more days after the period expired. The Criminal Court remanded the suspect as he is deemed a danger to society and as he may attempt to influence witnesses and evidence.

The suspect’s remand period has been extended at a time the state has sought from the court to remand him pending the end of his trial.

However, since the matter has been submitted to the court, the court remanded him in police custody for 15 additional days.

The Prosecutor General’s Office filed charges against Faih, who has a criminal record, last week. Faih has been charged with assaulting someone using a dangerous weapon.

The 25-year-old native of Maradhoo Feydhoo island in Seenu atoll, turned himself in after being on the run for over a month.

The suspect was wanted in connection with the case of gang violence and assault using a dangerous weapon for over a month and a group of individuals were earlier arrested under allegations of hiding him.

Judge Hussain Faiz Rashaad issued the court order against Faih.

The initial manhunt for Faih was launched in connection with a case of gang violence and assault using a sharp weapon inside a café in the capital city. The publication was issued on February 15. The police institution conducted a search operation in the capital, Malé City to locate the suspect as well.

After he turned himself in, Faih was put behind bars immediately.

The evidence submitted against him includes statements of witnesses who witnessed the scene, statement of the victim, his criminal record and a video and image analysis report.
