The People’s Majlis has gone into recess after the end of the first session of the year.
Although the parliament session got extended if there were incomplete tasks in the past, the People’s Majlis went into recess on Thursday, with several tasks pending.
This is usually decided after taking a vote at the parliament chamber.
The parliament with resume after a recess period of two weeks.
Former President and Current Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed expressed hope that work pending at the committees will continue to proceed, even if the parliament is in recess.
He added that debates were carried out for several bills and resolutions during the first parliament session of the year.
The first parliamentary session is held from February to April, every year.
The second session is scheduled to begin around May 16.
During Thursday’s Majlis sitting, votes were taken on the government's amendment to the Sports Act as well as the opposition's motion to resolve the constitutional confusion over President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih resuming the presidential duties while Vice President Faisal Naseem was sworn in.
The latter was dismissed by the parliament and the amendment to the Sports Act was accepted.
