A stakeholder consultation workshop is being held on 'Prevention of plant pest and disease spread in the Maldives'.
A total of 28 candidates joined the workshop which was launched at Solite Restaurant on Tuesday morning.
The two-day workshop will see the active participation of those representing farmers, government Institutions, plant and agro input importers as well as landscapers and plant nurserymen.
Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture, Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan inaugurated the workshop.
Speaking at the event, fisheries minister urged stakeholders to discuss the issue of the spreading of tree disease in the Maldives, together. He also called upon them to remove the deficiencies in the existing laws and regulations, identify the sections that need to be revised, prevent the spreading of such diseases a find a sustainable solution for the issue.
The event also saw Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hasan distributing certificates to the 28 participants.
