The books were launched at the 33rd Annual General Meeting of MATI held at Kurumba Maldives on 19th February 2023

The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) has launched two books to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Maldives Tourism.

The books were launched at the 33rd Annual General Meeting of MATI held at Kurumba Maldives on 19th February 2023.

Minister of Tourism Abdulla Mausoom, Chairman of MATI, Mohamed Umar Maniku, Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem, Secretary General of MATI, Ahmed Nazeer, CEO and MD of MMPRC, Thoyyib Mohamed took part in the launching ceremony.

The two books launched in light of 2022 being the Golden Jubilee of Tourism are; “Maldivian Resort Architecture - 50 years of island resorts” authored by Mr. Mauroof Jameel and “50 years of Tourism in Maldives - the Pioneers, People and Policies that Shaped Maldives Tourism” authored by Dr. Simad Saeed.

The Maldivian Resort Architecture - 50 years of island resorts documents the architectural evolution of the Maldivian Resorts. The author of the book, Mauroof Jameel, is an architect, independent researcher and an illustrator specializing in architectural heritage of the Maldives who had previously authored and released the book “Coral Stone Mosques of Maldives: The Vanishing Legacy of the Indian Ocean”

The 50 years of Tourism in Maldives - the Pioneers, People and Policies that Shaped Maldives Tourism documents the evolution of five decades of the Maldives Tourism Industry. The author of the book, Dr. Simad Saeed is the Managing Director of CDE Consulting and an avid researcher of Tourism in Maldives, that specializes in Strategy, Sustainability and Social Innovation. 

The golden jubilee year of tourism held a record of milestones related to the tourism sector. As such, Maldives was crowned the World’s Leading Destination three times in a row last year.

It has been 50 years since zealous travelers have been visiting the Maldives which has been drawing in visitors with its picturesque beauty for years.

Tourism was introduced in the Maldives in 1972.
