Gov't to develop community centers for the elderly across Maldives
 
This was announced during the ceremony held to confer the National Award for Public Service, at Dharubaaruge on Thursday evening

The government is to develop community centers for the elderly across the country.

This was announced during the ceremony held at Dharubaaruge on Thursday evening to confer the National Award for Public Service,

Making the announcement, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih revealed that the community centers for seniors and the elderly will be developed across different parts of the country, with the purpose of providing a space for pensioners and the elderly to meet and socialize.

The centers will also offer several services, including social support services as well as entertainment and wellness activities.

President Solih went on to note that the centers will assist to increase the participation of the elderly and senior citizens as well as their contributions in matters linked to society.

Shedding light on the plans to develop centers for the seniors, the president stated that the facility in the congested capital, Malé City will be located at the plot where the old “Naadhee” building stood.

The Naadhee building also served as the People’s Majlis, in the past.

Centers for Seniors are expected to be developed across the entire country, in the years to come.

Once completed, the president noted that these centers will serve as places which will offer seniors and the elderly, happiness and contentment.

Thursday’s ceremony also saw President Solih congratulating recipients of the National Award for Public Service and extending his sincere gratitude to the recipients for their sincere, invaluable and long service to the nation.

The president specifically noted the over 50 years of service provided by Sabira Waheed and Ismail Rasheed, who served the nation for over 50 years.

He was joined at the function by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, Vice President Faisal Naseem, cabinet ministers, State dignitaries, and senior officials of government offices and institutions.
